Palliative Care Unit-2018

Palliative care improves the quality of life of patients and their families who are facing problems associated with life-threatening illness, whether physical, psychosocial or spiritual. It is meant for people suffering from a terminal illness where a cure is not always possible and for those who have suffered, or are suffering, a complicated illness and need their symptoms controlled. The model of care we offer is a Home Based Care model supported by hospital services for the home care patients. Awareness activities about cancer and the palliative care service is conducted in various villages. The hospital started the Palliative Care service from October 1, 2017. Officially the department was inaugurated by Mr. R Prasanna, Special Secretary Social Welfare Department.

We focus Palliative Care service within a catchment area of 10 kms around the hospital . These are also the villages where we plan to develop other community services, including livelihood programs. This enables us to provide holistic services in specified areas, with minimal duplication of services. As of now 19 patients (13 cases of CA) are registered under this project.

Special thanks to EHA PALLIATIVE CARE DEPARTMENT for supporting this department financially and with trainings and guidance .
